The Taylor County Arts Council will hold a Gallery Gala and Art Auction on Saturday December 9th from 6-9 pm at Gallery 62 West on Main Street in Grafton. Eighty-nine paintings by multi award-winning Fairmont artist Liuqing Ruth Yang will be up for auction with all proceeds benefiting the renovation of the Gallery building.
Yang generously donated a large portion of her collected work to the TCAC to help the organization continue making a difference in the community. She shared that God spoke to her and pressed it on her heart to make the donation. Yang often speaks of her faith and how blessed she has been, both with her talent and the recognition she has received.
This incredible artist was born and raised in China, but is now a proud citizen of the United States. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from West Virginia University in 2021 and lives in Fairmont with her husband and son. In just 2023, she has won First Place and People’s Choice in the TCAC’s 25th Annual Memorial Day Exhibit, the D. Gene Jordan Memorial Award in the 23rd Biennial Juried Exhibition at the West Virginia State Museum, and Third Place at the 15th Annual Best of West Virginia Juried Exhibition at Tamarack. Yang has also received several Honorable Mentions, participated in exhibitions at Marshall University, and will be featured in the upcoming issue of ‘You’re Not Seeing Things’ magazine.
Online bidding has begun and can be found on the website Better World at https://taylorcountyartscouncil.betterworld.org/. On December 9th, bidders are invited to visit the Gallery for light refreshments, a performance by vocalist Gigi Collett, and live auctions of a few special pieces. Visitors can also enjoy the 10th Annual Festival of Trees, a fundraiser in collaboration with the Taylor County Family Resources.
