WHO: The West Virginia Division of Culture and History with live feed of memorial service by West Virginia Public Broadcasting WHAT: The Culture Center will be the site for visitation and memorial services for Ken Hechler, longtime West Virginia public servant, who died Saturday, Dec. 10 at his home in Romney, W.Va. The Rev. Cecil Jividen will preside over the service. There will be testimonials, readings and music. West Virginia Public Broadcasting is offering a live feed of the memorial service for any media that would like to pick it up. Satellite coordinates are: Galaxy 16 C Transponder 23-Ch B WHERE: The Culture Center, State Capitol Complex, Charleston. WHEN: Monday, Dec. 19. Visitation and family receiving line from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., in the Balcony Gallery. He will lie in repose in the Great Hall of the Culture Center. The memorial service will be from 3 – 4:30 p.m. in the Great Hall. WHY: To honor Ken Hechler (b. Sept. 20, 1914, Roslyn, N.Y., d. Dec. 10, 2016, Romney, W.Va.), a longtime West Virginia public servant who advised President Harry S. Truman, questioned Nazi leaders after World War II and was the oldest living former member of Congress in the nation. His political career lasted more than 60 years, stretching from the White House to Congress to the West Virginia secretary of state’s office.
