CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Culture and History (WVDCH) presented $405,967 in development grant funds for 11 projects involving the restoration and rehabilitation of historic sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the WVDCH administers the development grant program. “The preservation of our state’s historic resources is so important for West Virginians and their sense of history.  Being able to see, to visit and to live in sites that have historic meaning keeps alive the sense that our heritage is not just something that happened long ago, but is something that we can still appreciate and enjoy,” said WVDCH Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith.

A review panel appointed by the SHPO developed recommendations for grant funding for the Archives and History Commission, which made the final grant determinations at their meeting in Parkersburg on May 29, 2015. Funding for the grants program comes from the appropriation of funds from the West Virginia Legislature. The division conducted an awards ceremony and orientation on August 5, 2015.

The recipients of the 2015 development grants are as follows:

Braxton County
GoodFellow Harrison LLC, $50,000 to assist with the replacement of the roof on the Braxton Motors building in Sutton.

Fayette County
Fayette County Commission, $41,000 to assist with the repair of the stone finials and columns on the Fayette County Courthouse in Fayetteville.

Greenbrier County
Greenbrier Historical Society, $25,000 to assist with the stabilization of the Blue Sulphur Spring Pavilion in Blue Sulphur.

Jefferson County
Jefferson County Historical Landmark Commission, $14,685 to assist with the replacement of the roof on Snow Hill in Kearneysville.

Logan County
Southern Coalition for the Arts, Inc., $28,543 to assist with the replacement of the roof on the Don Chafin House in Logan.

Mason County
Main Street Point Pleasant, $29,715 to assist with the window repair on the A. F. Kisar House in Point Pleasant.

Ohio County
Fort Henry LLC, $41,180 to assist with the window repair on the Fort Henry Club Building in Wheeling.
Monroe Street LLC/ Wheeling National Heritage Area Foundation, $33,694 to assist with the repair of the roof on The Blue Church in Wheeling.
Osiris Temple, $47,150 to assist with the replacement of the roof on Shepherd Hall in Wheeling.

Randolph County
Davis & Elkins College, $55,000 to assist with the roof replacement on Halliehurst in Elkins.

Wood County
Henderson Hall, $40,000 to assist with the window repair on Henderson Hall in Williamstown.
