CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Culture and History will continue its commemorative token series of sesquicentennial programs beginning this Saturday, Feb. 9, and progressing throughout the year. Visitors will earn a coin emblazoned with a symbol relating to West Virginia for each month they participate. The programs will be in the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex, Charleston. The series will take place in the Museum Education Center from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. Each event will include a display of artifacts from the museum’s collection, videos and documentaries in the media room and hands-on projects. All activities are free and open to the public. The spring schedule is as follows: Saturday, Feb. 9, “At Home, Victorian Life in the City” will present a coin with the state bird, the Cardinal. Saturday, March 9, “Pre-Statehood, Victorian Life in the Country” will present a coin with the state insect, the Honey Bee. Saturday, April 27, “The History of West Virginia’s State Symbols” will present a coin with the State Seal. In addition, on Saturday, April 6, the Division will present the fifth annual “A. James Manchin Memorial Tournament.” This sanctioned tournament, sponsored by the West Virginia Marble Shooters Association, is open to children from 7 to 14 years of age and all skill levels.
