GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Twenty-eight high school marching bands from across the state will gather in Glenville, W.Va., for the first West Virginia Marching Band Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 3. The West Virginia Division of Culture and History is presenting the competition to highlight and celebrate music education in Mountain State schools. The event will be held at Glenville State College’s I.L. and Sue Morris Stadium.

Bands will be judged on coordination and showmanship; marching and maneuvering; music; musical effect; percussion; drum major; color guard; majorette corps; and featured twirler.

The competition will begin at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day until the awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m.

“Students who have opportunities to participate in arts education and arts programs like band, theater, fine arts and literature, gain an appreciation for the world around them that will never leave them,” said Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith. “Together with our statewide VH1 Save The Music partnership and our First Lady’s Festival of Songs, these programs become integral to our mission to promote, encourage and celebrate arts education.”

Chesapeake Energy, Glenville State College, VH1 Foundation, West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts and West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission join the Division in presenting the West Virginia Marching Band Invitational.

Tickets for the event are $3 for visitors 11 years old and younger and $6 for visitors 12 years old and older. A complete list of bands is included.
